As a consultant, I work with families either in a single session or for a very brief number of sessions, as needed. This work is more advisory, and once we have discussed the issue(s) of concern we can decide if this approach is viable.
I have extensive experience as a clinician working in group homes under the auspices of the New York State Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). Having been the clinician designing ABA programs for Activities of Daily Living and addressing behavioral concerns as well, I understand the importance of training direct care givers and ensuring implementation of programs to ensure best outcome. I have provided quality assurance assessments on a regular basis for parents who are concerned about the quality and consistency of intervention for their children in a group home setting. By using a professional and collaborative approach I have been able to work with administration and staff to ensure the implementation of interventions to the benefit of all concerned.
